There is an effervescent line of studies on women in the Ottoman Empire and Turkey today. The idea in this course is to present part of this research, eschewing the stereotypes of Orientalism, to address the history of women in one of the most long-lived and fascinating empires in history. From members of the Ottoman elite to minorities in the empire, from stories about them to autobiographies: the aim is to show a diversity of little-known stories.
